60 Years of the Space Age
14 November 2017

The new issue of Kyrgyz Express Post postage stamps is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Space Age.

On October 4, 1957, the first artificial Earth satellite was launched into outer space. This event initiated the Space Age and marked a breakthrough for mankind in the exploration of space.

60 years of the Space Age are marked by many outstanding scientific and technical achievements, as well as the heroic deeds that made space one of the great spheres of human endeavour. Among these achievements, the first manned space flight, made on April 12, 1961 by the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, should be distinguished. On July 20, 1969, the first human, Neil Armstrong (USA), stepped onto the surface of the Moon, initiating the exploration of our natural satellite within the remarkable Apollo program.

Over time, not only the USSR and the USA, but also other countries developed their space projects. In the 2000s, the People's Republic of China achieved outstanding results in space exploration, including manned flights and the creation of space stations in the Earth’s orbit. Also, the European Union, Japan and India are successfully implementing major space projects.

The Space Age has changed the way we look at our universe, our planet, and even the people around us. There is no doubt that close international cooperation will lead, in the near future, to new outstanding victories in the peaceful exploration of outer space.
